The Process
The Sketch
The process begins with a simple sketch. This highlights essential melodic, harmonic, and timbral material as well as key sync points.
The Drafts
Drafts start with a decision on an instrumental pallete. By breaking down melodic lines into their essential motives, I can then begin introducing and expanding them. I focus on emphasizing smooth lines and natural voice leading, using simple ideas to create structure.
The Score
I edit the drafts until I'm satisfied with the material and begin the engraving process. I ensure that all music is clearly notated and all details are included. My goal is to produce scores that promote efficient recordings and rehearsals by leaving no question about the score's intention for performers.
